I'm a podiatrist and here's why you should never use this foot treatment

In the Swiss version of the 20 minutes , podiatrist Fabienne Bettschen sounds the alarm regarding a type of foot treatment care that is creating a buzz on social networks! You've probably already heard of them: they're these exfoliating masks that make dead skin fall off in tatters. The result: soft and smooth tootsies like never before. But everything doesn't always go as planned...

BE CAREFUL, THIS TYPE OF MIRACULOUS FOOT MASK IS NOT SAFE

As summer approaches, open shoes are out and so are your feet! Would you like yours to get a makeover before displaying them? It's possible, thanks to calluspeeling , which acts in record time. Most often, these come in the form of socks, soaked in product, which you simply put on and leave on for the indicated duration.

Immediately after removing the mask, the effects are usually barely visible. You have to wait a few days to see the magic (or rather the science) work. If the product is dosed sufficiently, then the dead skin on the feet will eventually come off and fall off naturally. Even the roughest areas, where the horn forms, are softened!

EXFOLIATING FOOT MASKS SHOULDN'T BE USED BY EVERYONE, FOOT TREATMENT

Most of the time, the results are there. But the podiatrist explains that these products are not always safe for those who use them. Indeed, if callus peelingdoes not generally pose a problem for a healthy person ”, she specifies that precautions must be taken in certain cases.

With age, the skin becomes drier and thinner and immune defenses decline. It is then not uncommon to see crevices appear into which bacteria can infiltrate ,” warns the expert. It also advises people who suffer from diabetes mellitus, peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) or rheumatism not to use it.

HOW TO LIMIT THE RISKS BY APPLYING A PEELING MASK TO YOUR FEET?

Fabienne Bettschen continues: “ In cases of septicemia, erysipelas or phlegmon [which is a bacterial inflammation of the connective tissue], it may be necessary to amputate the toes, feet or legs .” Blood-curdling precision! To avoid risks, the expert recommends seeking the advice of a doctor if in doubt and always checking the composition of the product used.
